Frequently Asked Questions
Truly, it’s never too soon. You don’t need to have a problem to start taking care of your skin. Just doing the basics like in any of the Essentials kits is a great way to start. There is a saying that starts with “An ounce of prevention…” And it’s true with the skin for sure.
Yes! There are some really good reasons to wear SPF (other than your mom pressuring you to apply it all the time!) The biggest reason is that the UV rays that come from the environment cause damage that you can’t see. Even when you’re indoors, UV light comes through windows and from classroom lights so wearing a light layer daily is best.
The skin on our lips does not have the same protection as our skin. The sun can cause the lips to dry out and get chapped as well as and can lead to fine lines and darker edges of our lip lines as we get older.
Although Mineral SPF may contain natural zinc oxide, many can be very difficult to apply. They can be pasty and thick as well as very difficult to remove which can irritate the skin. When my daughter was around 3, she refused to let me apply those types of sunscreens. Sunscreen doesn’t do anyone any good if they won’t wear it. So, I chose a blend of Zinc Oxide (mineral SPF) and chemical SPF. I feel that the ingredients used in Protect are the least problematic in that they do not irritate the skin, are rated safe for infants as well as do not contain any pore clogging ingredients. It feels very light on the skin and does not trap heat which can lead to sensitivity and breakout.
We created this line to give you great products that are also affordable to continue using on a regular basis. The sizes we chose will allow some room for younger kids to get used to how much they should use without running out too quickly. Here are some approximate timeframes: The Essentials Starter Set when used nightly, should last approximately a month. It is also great for travel and can be refilled with the larger sizes. 8oz Cleanse, 2oz Hydrate, Hydrate Oil Free and Protect when applied daily will last approximately 3-4 months.
There are some essential guidelines that most formulators go by now which include the 6 big NO’s: no sulfates, phthalates, parabens, synthetic fragrance, synthetic dyes, or animal testing. There’s also a list of about 30 more ingredients that I made sure we didn’t put in our products that could be toxic or irritating. I wanted to make sure that there weren’t any strong natural fragrances that could be overpowering for young people to use and I wanted to make sure that there were not any pore clogging ingredients in the products that could build up in the skin. Most importantly, I wanted to create a product line that was a safe, effective alternative to the big brands that are sold in the drug stores.
